WHAT’S MY FACE SHAPE?

Great american make-up artist Kevyn Aucoin said once: “Knowing your face shape is the first step to creating your most beautiful look”. This is so true!

Every face is different. Every face has it’s own character. Every face is beautiful! It’s worth to know how to enhance beauty of the face! First step is to find out own face shape and this is not really easy to many women.

Knowing own face shape helps to see what haircut is the most flattering, how to shape the eyebrows or what glasses are the best choice. Also make-up should be right for the specific face shapes. We can help our looks or hurt ourselves doing it wrong

I remember my beginnings as a make-up artist. First as a student trying to see what my teacher shows. At some point I thought I must be blind! How this could be a triangle, rectangle or sometimes even mix of a few?! Contouring and applying blush was a little confusing… First I had to discover my own face shape and then I started to recognize other faces

To find out your face shape you should start from the basics.

First you should check proportions of your face.
You can take a ruler and measure the length of your face. Then divide this length by 3 sections:

  1. From your hairline to your nasal bridge.
  2. From the eyebrows to the bottom of your nose.
  3. From the bottom of your nose to your chin.

There are six basic face shapes:

THE OVAL FACE

  • Considered as a perfect face shape.
  • Forehead is a bit wider than the chin.
  • Delicate, but nicely shaped cheekbones.
  • Face tapers to a narrow oval chin.
  • Lengths of all 3 sections are similar, but the 2nd section is the widest part of the face.

THE SQUARE FACE

  • The squared jawline is the most obvious feature.
  • The width of forehead, cheekbones, and jaw are about the same widths.
  • Face is nearly as wide as it is long .
  • Lengths of the 1st and the 2nd sections are equal, 3rd section is usually shorter.

THE ROUND FACE

  • Face has soft features.
  • Cheekbones are the widest part of the face.
  • Face is almost as wide as it is long.
  • Jaw is slightly rounded – opposite to a square-shaped face.
  • Lengths of all usually 3 sections are the same.

THE HEART-SHAPED (TRIANGLE) FACE

1HEART
  • This shape is similar to oval, but have a long jawline and pointed chin.
  • Cheekbones are high and visibly shaped.
  • Forehead is the widest part of the face.

THE OBLONG (RECTANGULAR) FACE

1LONG
  • Forehead, cheekbones and jawline are all about the same width.
  • Face is similar to oval, but longer, less wide and a bit square-shaped.
  • Lengths of all 3 sections are usually equal.

THE DIAMOND FACE
